Growth

At Grace Christian, we believe that the essence of spiritual growth lies in our commitment to becoming like Christ in all that we say and do.  Quite often, over the course of its history, the Christian Church has confused religiosity with spiritual growth, but they are not one and the same.

The core questions for Christians are not “How much do you know …  how much time do you spend in prayer… or how many scripture verses can you quote?”  The core question is: “How do you respond to those who are most needy around you?”  Quite simply, the accumulation of knowledge or the mindless repetition of ritual neither reflect the depth of one’s heart nor the content of one’s character.

At Grace, our commitment to growth means that we are giving ourselves in obedience to the call of Jesus Christ, which is not come to church or come to prayer meeting, but “Come to me.”  In word and deed, we are convinced that being a Christian means that we are to be like Christ in all that we say and do. From the very oldest among us to the very youngest, the standard of spiritual growth is the same. Are we becoming more loving and more kind than we were two months, or two weeks, or two days ago? Are we more joyful than crabby? Are we growing more patient or are we becoming less tolerant, more selfless or more selfish? These are the questions we ask and the honest answers to these let us know whether or not we are heading in the right direction when it comes to the issue of spiritual growth.
