Grace Christian Church began with a small group of people from what was formerly Monmouth Baptist Church. As a result of some philosophical and ethical differences with the direction of leadership in the Southern Baptist Convention, the small fellowship voted overwhelmingly in January of 1998 to break ties with the SBC and become non-denominational. The reason we are a non-denominational church is that we believe the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Christ’s love, without which we have no right to even call ourselves Christians.
However, in an effort to live out our faith in the most creative, relevant, and excellent ways, we partner with The Willow Creek Association (an international association of over 11,000 churches). This partnership helps to give us connection to and support from a wide variety of other churches all over the world who share a similar passion and vision for life and faith.
Since our initial launch in 1998, we have continued to grow and experience great results. But, to be honest, we are a people who are still very much in process and under construction. At times, the road we have traveled has been exhilarating and filled with wonder and celebration. And still, at other points along the way, it has been a humbling journey of falling and failing, and learning how to get back up and try again. Through it all, we continue to thrive because peoples’ lives continue to be healed and transformed by God's love and grace among us. |
